Southwell Artspace

- Young People’s Arts Award

Southwell Artspace is a registered centre for Arts Award with main deliverer / advisor Frances Ashton.

Through the Autumn and Spring terms 2008, around 45 pupils aged 12 to 14 from the Minster School will take part in the Arts Award, focusing on visual art at the Bronze level. Pupils will get the opportunity to experiment with art forms such as Graffiti art, Animation, Ceramics, Print Making and Textiles through artist-led workshops.

The Arts Award supports young people to develop as artists and arts leaders and is available throughout England. The Arts Award is a nationally recognised qualification at three levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Achieving an Arts Award says a lot about a person. It shows their commitment to their art form/s, an interest in developing their skills and understanding, their communication, planning and evaluation skills. It demonstrates skills in leadership as well as their own arts practice.

These skills are what colleges, universities and employers are looking for and many recognise the Arts Award as an additional qualification. The Arts Award team are currently preparing an application to UCAS to attach points to the Gold Award. The Arts Award is run by Arts Council England and Trinity Guildhall.
