Artspace ‘08

December 5th - December 19th 2008

From 2003 to 2009, Southwell Artspace was a creative hub within a rural market town established by local artists and community members, which offered subsidised artists studios for those seeking careers in the creative industries and a gallery space that presented contemporary art of regional and national significance, with a particular emphasis on drawing.

Artspace actively engaged with its rural constituency through its exhibition and education programme. It also nurtured and developed an influential creative community of artists and associates that generated opportunities for economic and social regeneration in the region. Forming partnerships across the cultural and rural sectors, Artspace advised on and managed off-site art programmes, artist commissions, residencies, and public events.

Southwell Artspace embraced its rural location at the centre of the historic market town of Southwell by working in partnership with local organizations such as Southwell Minster, The National Trusts Workhouse and the Minster School. Artspace also interacts with Southwells cultural community such as the Southwell Folk Festival and the Southwell Artists Group.
